Cold War Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Cold War - Essay Example It is called Cold War on the grounds that the relations were frigid at any rate and never arrived at breaking point to welcome on a shooting war. It is additionally 'cold' in light of the fact that each attempt to subvert each other's political force. There were a few zones where conceivably both were at loggerheads and where another WW III could have followed had more sizzling heads won. In West Berlin, Russia barred this US,UK and France-controlled zone with a divider that made the last interpret that they were purposefully ensnared. A dtente followed when US did a huge carrying of provisions as opposed to utilizing power. In the Iron Curtain, Stalin persuaded these Slav and Balkan nations to acknowledge socialism as type of government since Russia required them as support states against Germany however the Allies interpreted this as an extreme its image of government. In Greece and Turkey, Russia disliked when there the Truman Doctrine was applied for example US gave reserves and monstrous guide with the goal that both might have the option to oppose socialist endeavors to enslave them. In Western Europe, the US thought of the Marshall Plan, which was a multi-billion guide program to recreate the practically bankrupt countries attacked by WW II. Russia responded with frustration since that would make it hard for them to incite dispute and discontent. At that point the NATO, made out of USA, Britain, Canada and Western Europe including West Germany was set up with the end goal of commonly making sure about themselves from conceivable socialist military hostility. Regardless of the overweening strain and strengthened threats, no full-scale war radiated. What's more, this was on the grounds that USA had created the nuclear bomb and shown how it can resolve clashes with critical outcomes. It is a direct result of the improvement of these nuclear and nuclear bombs, rockets and different arms stockpiles of war and on account of the unpredictability of plans associated with upsetting the opponent that reconnaissance turned into an important apparatus to outmaneuver the adversary. As ahead of schedule as the 1920's, USSR through its NKVD and OGPU insight operators, had just entered the State and the War Departments and other government organizations by enrolling left-inclining Americans, remote conceived Americans and Russians as spies to acquire grouped and private privileged insights and transmit3 them to Moscow as microfilms or as scrambled links. At that point, the enthusiasm of the Russian covert operative ring was the mechanical and military insider facts of USA and the primary objective for penetration was the FAECT(Federation of Architects, Engineers, Chemists and Technicians) and with fulfilling results (Usdin 28). In one case, it was found that surveillance had arrived at the top echelon of the State Department with Alger Hiss, one of its high ranking representatives got flatfooted when Time Magazine supervisor Whittaker Chambers, himself an admitted Soviet specialist, appeared and affirmed that Hiss gave to him a microfilm of State Department records. Hydrogen Bond Definition and Examples

Most people are comfortable with the idea of ionic and covalent bonds, yet unsure about what hydrogen bonds are, how they form, and why they are important. Key Takeaways: Hydrogen Bonds A hydrogen bond is an attraction between two atoms that already participate in other chemical bonds. One of the atoms is hydrogen, while the other may be any electronegative atom, such as oxygen, chlorine, or fluorine.Hydrogen bonds may form between atoms within a molecule or between two separate molecules.A hydrogen bond is weaker than an ionic bond or a covalent bond, but stronger than van der Waals forces.Hydrogen bonds play an important role in biochemistry and produce many of the unique properties of water. Hydrogen Bond  Definition A hydrogen bond is a type of attractive (dipole-dipole) interaction between an electronegative atom and a hydrogen atom bonded to another electronegative atom. This bond always involves a hydrogen atom. Hydrogen bonds can occur between molecules or within parts of a single molecule. A hydrogen bond tends to be stronger than van der Waals forces, but weaker than covalent bonds or ionic bonds. It is about 1/20th (5%) the strength of the covalent bond formed between O-H. However, even this weak bond is strong enough to withstand slight temperature fluctuation. But the Atoms Are Already Bonded How can hydrogen be attracted to another atom when it is already bonded? In a polar bond, one side of the bond still exerts a slight positive charge, while the other side has a slight negative electrical charge. Forming a bond doesnt neutralize the electrical nature of the participant atoms. Examples of Hydrogen Bonds Hydrogen bonds are found in nucleic acids between base pairs and between water molecules. This type of bond also forms between hydrogen and carbon atoms of different chloroform molecules, between hydrogen and nitrogen atoms of neighboring ammonia molecules, between repeating subunits in the polymer nylon, and between hydrogen and oxygen in acetylacetone. Many organic molecules are subject to hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen bond: Help bind transcription factors to DNAAid antigen-antibody bindingOrganize polypeptides into secondary structures, such as alpha helix and beta sheetHold together the two strands of DNABind transcription factors to each other Hydrogen Bonding in Water Although hydrogen bonds form between hydrogen and any other electronegative atom, the bonds within water are the most ubiquitous (and some would argue, the most important). Hydrogen bonds form between neighboring water molecules when the hydrogen of one atom comes between the oxygen atoms of its own molecule and that of its neighbor. This happens because the hydrogen atom is attracted to both its own oxygen and other oxygen atoms that come close enough. The oxygen nucleus has 8 plus charges, so it attracts electrons better than the hydrogen nucleus, with its single positive charge. So, neighbor oxygen molecules are capable of attracting hydrogen atoms from other molecules, forming the basis of hydrogen bond formation. The total number of hydrogen bonds formed between water molecules is 4. Each water molecule can form 2 hydrogen bonds between oxygen and the two hydrogen atoms in the molecule. An additional two bonds can be formed between each hydrogen atom and nearby oxygen atoms. A consequence of hydrogen bonding is that hydrogen bonds tend to arrange in a tetrahedron around each water molecule, leading to the well-known crystal structure of snowflakes. In liquid water, the distance between adjacent molecules is larger and the energy of the molecules is high enough that hydrogen bonds are often stretched and broken. However, even liquid water molecules average out to a tetrahedral arrangement. Because of hydrogen bonding, the structure of liquid water becomes ordered at lower temperature, far beyond that of other liquids. Hydrogen bonding holds water molecules about 15% closer than if the bonds werent present.  The bonds are the primary reason water displays interesting and unusual chemical properties. Hydrogen bonding reduces extreme temperature shifts near large bodies of water.Hydrogen bonding allows animals to cool themselves using perspiration because such a large amount of heat is needed to break hydrogen bonds between water molecules.Hydrogen bonding keeps water in its liquid state over a wider temperature range than for any other comparable-sized molecule. The bonding gives water an exceptionally high heat of vaporization, which means considerable thermal energy is needed to change liquid water into water vapor. Hydrogen bonds within heavy water are even stronger than those within ordinary water made using normal hydrogen (protium). Hydrogen bonding in tritiated water is stronger still.

MacTara free essay sample

?Mactara is currently (2007) in a healthy financial position relative to other competitors in the lumber industry. They have stayed profitable amidst an unstable marketplace with their biggest consumer, the United States. This uncertainty is a problem for MacTara and the Canadian softwood lumber trade as a whole. Also, the company has some new equipment that has not been used to its full, profit-maximizing capacity. As consultants to MacTara we will provide alternative strategies for expanding operations, continuing operations, and cutting back/ operations. In order for MacTara to expand its operations and enter into the high profit margin market of value-added wood products they must: 1. Budget costs to increase production a. Quote for current and future international shipping fees b. Quote for re-engineering the kiln c. Quote for new packaging plant d. Quote for outsourcing packaging 2. Consolidate Atlantic region lumber industry a. Ensure high volume of raw materials from numerous smaller suppliers b. We will write a custom essay sample on MacTara or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page End Fibre Agreement with pulp mills 3. Begin implementation of new projects and alliances overseas 4. Increase production and begin entering European market (First-mover mentality) 5. Continuously educate customers on wood energy These are crucial steps (see exhibit C for details) for Mactara to enter the value-added wood product market of wood pellets and softwood decking/flooring. This strategy is most favourable for Mactara because the volume of production is increasing, average costs are decreasing and more emphasis is put on high profit margin products. This approach will also add jobs within MacTara and the Atlantic region. If Mactara decides to continue operations as they currently stand they must acknowledge the volatility of the USD and the unstable trading channels available to them. The main focus using this strategy would be: 1. Constrain production to current and future market demand a. Reduce current production during market slump b. Predict future market demand c. Prepare to increase or decrease production moving forward 2. Lobbying government for emphasis on keeping softwood lumber treaty stable 3. Creating personal relationships with current customers of construction lumber and pellets 4. Honoring current and future pellet contracts This passive approach to the problem facing MacTara is unfavourable due to the strength and size the company currently holds over the Atlantic region. It does, however, allow the company to avoid the risk of competing overseas with lower quality Russian and Baltic wood products. These products will cut into the profit margins of Mactara. Current capacity should cover overseas pellet contracts but a significant drop in production could lead to legal troubles. With this strategy MacTara has to remain adaptable to current market trends, requiring continuous analysis of the marketplace and acting reactively instead of proactively. Perhaps MacTara decides the industry is too volatile and unpredictable to continue the current volume of production and decides to close its business operations. If the shareholders believe they can create more wealth in a healthier industry they may choose to liquidate the assets of MacTara while the company is still financially healthy. To do so would require: 1. Assess the current market (can we be profitable for three more years) a. Continuing operations for three years and announcing future plans to exit the market or; b. Paying contract fees and exiting market immediately 2. Shutting down operations and laying off the workforce 3. Liquidating assets including new saw, state-of-the-art pellet mill, buildings and the MacTara name Selling the company may be met with hostility but the economic future for the shareholders is protected. MacTara is financially stable and would attract a high price due to its high quality products and strength within the industry. This approach would be considered the safest of all and would only benefit the owners. The external factors facing this industry include political, economic, sociocultural, technological, environmental and legal aspects. Fortunately for the Canadian softwood lumber industry many of these aspects provide opportunities for success and growth (see exhibit A). Politically, the industry enjoys stability, regulation and tax credits for renewable energy across Canada, the United States and the European Union. The current economic situation is rather bleak and does not show growth due to a low USD, a stagnant construction industry, emerging Chinese/Indian markets and low inflation (possible recession). Canada, although a smaller population, enjoys a bounty of rural workers who expect modest wages. High consumerism in global markets ensures a steady demand of wood products. Technological mature, the lumber industry isn’t expected to see any revolutionary innovations to production. This aspect of maturity is also a benefit to energy customers as their old systems are easily adaptable to wood energy. Environmentally sound practices are essential to the success of a lumber producer and waste must be managed effectively. There are also many legal implications like private ownership, contracts, labour boards for disputes and health and safety initiatives. Because of high profit margins lumber producers are interested in value added wood products (see exhibit B). This creates a threat of new entrants in the pellet and decking/flooring markets that is countered by the large economies of scale that are used to reach such high margins and the large initial investment required to begin production. Lumber is an essential tool/material in construction and is rather hard to find a cost effective substitute. However, the pellet and decking/flooring markets’ substitutes range from wind, solar, oil and coal energy to tile, laminate, composite and hardwood flooring. Our customers and suppliers can’t pressure us with the threat of integration and the larger the mill the more influence over the geographic region. Large mills can provide economic stability to smaller producers of logs and enjoy large profit margins knowing customers cannot create their products on their own. Knowing your competition is essential (see exhibit D). MacTara’s competition depends on which market segment we’re focusing on. Construction lumber is produced in North America and the largest mills are located to the West of the mountains. This ensures our competitive advantage of trade routes to the more densely populated Eastern US. We also have a major port in Halifax for access to the European markets for value added products (see exhibit F). In Europe the competition is tougher as branding is essential. There are endless choices for flooring/decking overseas and we will need the help of Weyerhaeuser to solidify our brand. Baltic and Russian products are soon to enter the market and they have the advantage of trading routes. This is where our competitive advantage of CSR is beneficial. We actively demonstrate business practices that are environmentally friendly and sustainable (see exhibit H). MacTara prides itself in waste management and converts all waste into fuel used on site or pellets to be sold in the marketplace (see exhibit G). With these competitive advantages Mactara should be a staple in both the construction lumber and value added wood products markets for the foreseeable future. Our recommendation for Mactara moving forward is to expand operations, exploiting its competitive advantages in Canada, the US and the EU. Expanding allows for MacTara to become less dependent on the US who has proven to be a strenuous customer as of late. Many companies across the province would appreciate the economic stability that a consolidation/alliance would create for their companies and allow them to focus on producing logs. Increase in production means an increase in by-products and therefore an increase in value added products that create more profit. Re-engineering of the kiln to burn bark should cost roughly $1M Cdn and successful lobbying of the provincial government should yield enough for the remaining cost of the packaging plant to be funded by the remaining $4M Cdn that was received due to unfair duties paid. MacTara should focus on selling pellets to all available markets within Europe (residential, commercial and industrial) and educate customers on the convenience of switching to wood heat and how environmentally friendly and financially viable the option has become. MacTara should have the first-mover mentality as they strive to grab as big a market share as possible. Contingencies are as follows: If international shipping routes cannot be secured do not move ahead with consolidation, re-evaluate the North American marketplace and, most likely, exit the unstable environment. If consolidation cannot be reached then production volumes cannot be assured for expansion, re-evaluate North American marketplace and, most likely, exit the unstable environment. If packaging plant cannot be funded contact local packaging plants and begin outsourcing. Pellets are highly profitable and outsourcing the packaging will still result in profits for MacTara abroad. If considerable market share in Europe is lost to Russian and Baltic wood products production volume will decrease leaving less by-products for conversion to pellets. Immediate exit strategy should be implemented and MacTara assets liquidated to repay any outstanding creditors. Implementation of strategy is essential to the survival of MacTara in the lumber and value added wood product industries. MacTara should not be comfortable with current economic uncertainty and strive for stability through the specific channels available.

buy custom Impaired Medical Professionals essay

buy custom Impaired Medical Professionals essay Substance dependence is a serious problem that affects a large number of people, making them daily risk their lives and social status due to an urge to purchase and use the drug, even though they are usually aware of the adverse effects. Most of the time, dependence occurs when one has the accessibility to the drug and the desire for its usage. When it comes to medical professionals, drug abuse is rather common and it almost never comes as a surprise. Over the years, the medical community has become more and more aware that people have started to abuse drugs. Without a doubt, substance abuse is dangerous, irresponsible, and risky, since the effects of the drugs might deteriorate the ability of the person to complete his duties. Nonetheless, should one consider those who abuse various types of drugs that give energy, stamina and better concentration? In an essay regarding the problem of impaired medical professionals, Larry Blumenthal, M.D. and director of the Student Health Services of the Medical University of South Carolina painted a vivid picture of the effects of drug abuse in the life of a healthcare professional. As he says, the individual withdraws from family, friends, and leisure activities, and can frequently exhibit behavioral changes such as mood swings and depression (Blumenthal). This is definitely a good reason to believe that substance abuse deteriorates the capabilities of a doctor, nurse or any other type of medical professional. Blumenthal adds that the issues extend into the workplace, evidenced by sloppy documentation, tardiness, and absenteeism, and no one would ever appreciate a careless doctor, who seems to be unable to concentrate. (Blumenthal) Because chemical dependence has always been a problem, people in the medical community have rarely considered testing their own colleagues to see if they were under the influence of these substances. In these cases, certain moral principles take action, as many think that they cannot test their friends as this might put their relationship in danger. According to Robert Holman Coombs, a medical professr, who conducted a study in this domain in the mid 1990s, drug abuse is a terrible problem that is surprisingly popular in the medical community. After questioning a number of 91 medical professionals who admitted to be addicted, he gathered shocking findings. One particular medical intern used to present himself drunk at the hospital and was at one point put to do a tracheotomy (a medical procedure, which implies creating a hold into the trachea in order to allow air to enter the respiratory system) to a child. In spite of failing, he was successful and thought that he should experiment with the effects of alcohol during surgical performance. (Coombs, 2000) This exact event comes to contradict the fact that substance abuse is harmful both for the one who is addicted and those around him. However, is it worth taking a risk, even though the performances seem to be better under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Being addicted to certain substances raises many questions, especially if the specific person works in the medical field. The first issue that appears is whether there is a relationship between the addiction and a disabling illness. Louis E. Baxter, M.D. and Mark F. Seltzer, J.D. have already discussed this problem and believe to have arrived at a conclusion. Firstly, they consider addictive disorders that medical professional suffer from to be chronic diseases. As researches show, addictive disorders have identifiable biological, genetic and neurochemical components and markers that are found in other well-known and studied chronic medical illnesses. (Baxter, 2007) Furthermore, they state that these illnesses can be successfully treated, and the medical professionals, who suffer from addiction, may recover completely from the period of drug abuse. This is yet another fact that proves the dangers of substance abuse, considering that this condition is very resembling to a chronic, imp airing illness. Judging the people, who abuse chemical substances, is rather easy. However, does one sit and think about the social and psychical elements that might push someone into the urge of drug consumption? Mariee Baldissei has considered this in a thorough report on the topic, clearly depicting the fact that healthcare professionals have a very stressful job. They have to cope with the daily anxiety, pain, stress, sleep deprivation, unhealthy diet plan and other vicious activities. In addition, the permanent access to drugs makes the addiction much more easily obtainable. Once the addiction is installed, healthcare professionals seem to be very good at hiding signs and symptoms of substance use. (Baldissei, 2007) This is somewhat logical since medical professionals are the people who are supposed to know how a persons body changes once the active substance starts to show its effects. Apart from the logical health and social related problems that substance abuse creates, the legal aspects of drug consumption are more delicate. According to Baldissei, the law frowns upon the declaration of impaired medical professionals due to social aspects. However, the 1972 AMA House of Delegates encouraged the reporting of impaired healthcare professionals who may potentially endanger the lives of their patients. (Baldissei, 2007) This is clearly a good approach, which will help to discourage drug usage and substance addiction. To conclude with, drug abuse is undoubtedly a perilous activity, even when it comes to healthcare professionals who, obviously, need to know all the mechanisms and effects of the substances. However, impaired medical professionals are more and more numerous as drug abuse makes more victims in the medical field. Luckily, with the help of the leaders of the medical industry, drug abuse among the doctors can be treated and even prevented. What needs to be done? There must be regular surveys, tests, and checkups of all the medical employees in a hospital in order to determine a substance abuse at its debut and treat it. Although many consider some substances to be beneficial for a doctor, the impairment that drug addiction determines is definitely not a fair price to pay for a career. Therefore, drug addiction in medical personnel is a true and mundane problem that needs to be addressed and solved as soon as possible. Buy custom Impaired Medical Professionals essay

How Poverty Affect Health Insurance among Poor in the USA Research Paper

How Poverty Affect Health Insurance among Poor in the USA - Research Paper Example From the economic point of view one can also consider the health insurance as an indicator of the financial standing of the people in the societies. In most of the cases, health insurance helps people to avail the costly healthy checkup in minimum cost and likewise after having the policy if one is not suffering from any kind of disease then he or she may considers this as a loss in his investment. The recent survey in the USA reveals the fact that the poor people are more vulnerable to be get affected by the chronic conditions, and are not in a financial condition to get proper treatment. In most of the cases survey also proves that thee poor family in the USA are not in a position to afford the health insurance for one and all in their family which directly affecting their treatment. L’Ecluse in her analysis mentioned the fact that â€Å"more than half of low-income Californians with chronic conditions put off getting prescriptions or care for those ailments due to cost.† (L’Ecluse) This condition is more common among the families having income of less than $ 50,000. In her review she also mentioned that people with low incomes often have to fight with more than one adverse condition. Research a civil society organistain and detail its main tactics and Assignment

Research a civil society organistain and detail its main tactics and approached in regards to business - Assignment Example CSOs are the legally constituted corporations created by natural or legal people for the purpose of societal welfare (Craig, Taylor and Parkes, 2004). However, these establishments work independently from the government. One of the major characteristics of CSOs or NGOs is that these forms of establishments are non profitable organizations. Hence, their principal aim is not to make profits but to look after the welfare of people (Fine, 2006). This report aims at illustrating the main tactics and approaches used by a CSO in its relationship with business. In addition, the report also aims to summarise if and to what extent its tactics have evolved over time and will elucidate the discernible changes in the tactics. Lastly the study will evaluate the strategies used by the CSO and on the basis of that recommendation will be provided to the CSO in terms of improving or strengthening its activities (Barratt, 2009; Child and Gronbjerg, 2007). The civil society organizations or the non-gove rnmental organization chosen for this study is Mercy Corps. Therefore for better understanding, the study will at first present a brief overview of the chosen CSO. Mercy Corps: A Brief Overview Mercy Corps is an international aid agency which works towards the betterment of transitional environments that has gone through certain kinds of jolts such as natural disaster, economic collapse, or conflicts. The principal intention of this CSO is to assist people who have been a victim of the environmental collapse. It was founded in the year 1979 by humanitarian Ellsworth Culver and Dan O'Neill (Bonn and Baker, 2000). The establishment is currently headquartered in Portland, Oregon and is currently headed by Neal Keny-Guyer, who is the present CEO of the company. It has around 3700 employees and operates in 40 countries around the world (mercycorps, 2013a). The employees of the company attempt to aid victimised people on an urgent basis. For instance, the employees try to bring in food an d supplies as early as possible in order to enable the people restore their previous situation. This is achieved by various kinds of market-led and community-driven programs. The activities of the employees clearly reflect the enthusiasm of the organization towards the welfare of the society. Mercy Corps mostly recruits local people. As per reports, the company has 93% local employees as they believe local employees will be beneficial for their local knowledge. The CSO works for the betterment of failing states, conflict zones and nations that endured natural disasters. It remains active in places such as Zimbabwe, Somalia, Congo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Haiti and Indonesia among others (Bichsel, 2008). In these countries, women education is usually ignored, livelihood of a family is a matter of doubt and a child’s health is always a cause of concern. Hence, to get rid of these issues, the CSO works proactively and responds immediately. Mercy Corps prioritizes its activi ties on the basis of the urgency of the situation and also listens to the local inhabitants (Migdalovitz, 2010). Interestingly, Mercy Corps caters an area or locality for extended time periods in order to foster local entrepreneurship opportunities, inspire marketplaces through "cash for work" programs and a range of lending models for rebuilding social capital. Mercy Corps initiates several programs which allow them to gain market reputation and simultaneously

Project plan for esso supermarket

Project plan for esso supermarket I have to create a project plan for a Deferent branch for a Esso Supermarket. This involve import all necessary hardware likes computers for check out stations, mobile barcode readers for scanning the prices and relabeling them for any reduced price offers etc. It has been said that the building infrastructure already exists and is developed by local builder. However, i need to develop a plan that incorporates all electrical, plumbing and networking. All these tasks are done by electrician, plumber and network engineer; each and every cost  £200,  £250 and  £300 a day correspondingly. Major tasks include getting the quotations from different vendors, comparing the prices and deciding the specs and vendor, ordering the checkout stations, cabling, physically installing the checkout stations, putting the LAN cables and connecting all the checkout stations to the network and finally installing all the required software for the system. I need one week to decide the specification and get it approves by our top management. Vendors usually its take two to three weeks to get you the order delivered. Assume all check out stations hardware, mobile barcode readers are supplying by one vendor. However, the air conditioning units are supplying by a different vendor and takes up to two weeks. Cabling work is done by a network engineer and installation of air conditioning units is done by a contractor. These jobs may take a maximum of 3 working days. After all hardware is in its place, all the software must be is required to be installed. This takes a maximum of 5 working days. This has done by internal IT staff member from the head office. We had already that all required software is available and ready to be installed. As the store is largest , we decided to buy 30 checkout stations, each of which include a monitor, keyboard, card (magnetic stripe) reader, bar code reader, digital weighing scale, printer, pin and chip card reader, conveyor belt system etc. Each check out station would normally cost  £1000. Twenty air conditioning units, 10 freezers to store frozen food are also necessary. Air conditioning units and freezers cost  £500 and  £750 respectively. Two security systems be installed at each of the two entrances. This cost  £1000 each unit. Hardware staff cost  £300 per day. There are 2 hardware specialists working on the project. The budget for this project is  £150,000. Base on this Scope as project manager i have to develop the Esso supermarket Period of three months if i finished early my teem get eligible to get bones 1. Identifying the most important tasks A) Collecting quotation from Various Vendors B) Compare the prices range and decide the specs C) Order the checkout station D) Plumbing E) Electrical F) LAN Cables G) Networking H) Installing all the request soft ware This main project can be divided into major 5 tasks. Under this major task there will be several sub tasks which will be executes one after another and parallel according to the project need. 1) Initiating This is the first phase of the project. Here the project formally commencing between the project sponsor and the project manager. Here first kick off meeting will be initiated here the outline of the project will be discussed and the detailed project charter will be formally developed. After developing the project charter the project manager will review the key points with project sponsor and finalise the project with project sponsor. 2) Planning Here the project planning will be started. Before the actual project implementation the project should be well planned in every area of execution. Here the project manager develop a comprehensive project plan this includes the project scope, project objectives, the project deadlines, project quality plan, project communication and project configuration plan this will be outline the roles and responsibility of the individual people. This plan will be sent to the project sponsor approval and review after make necessary changes and finally accepting the project plane. 3) Executing Here the actual project implementation starts. Before the project implementation the required hardware, software and other equipments had to be purchased. So the project behalf of the Esso supermarket is decided to develop a RFP (Request for proposal) and decided to call for the proposal from the different supplier and then review the capabilities of each supplier and then short listed some of the very famous supplier in UK. Thereafter the interview has been concluded and the final vendors are selected and the price and the after sales services arrangement were negotiated and the project contract is signed. After that the vendors are in different time periods they send all the necessary hardware and equipments to the site. The electric cable wiring and the electric circuit installations were done in the site. The main plumbing has been done from plumbers and order to install the air condition and the freezers. After that the computer local area network is done by network engineers an d all the connection were connected then the checkout stations were installed. After this the security cameras were installed at the stores. Then the required software is installed after this check the functionality with SRS and reviews any changes. Then the user or new staffs are s recruited and given the training 4) Controlling Controlling the system is done by in the way of continues status report and monitoring the progress review meetings. 5) Closing After the project is implemented the project post analysis is done and checks whether the actual project milestones were achieved 2. A Look into the Watergate Affair Essay -- Politics American History Ri

A Look into the Watergate Affair The Watergate Affair, is the worst political scandal in U.S. history. It led to the resignation of the president, Richard M. Nixon, after he became implicated in an attempt to cover up the scandal. â€Å"The Watergate Affair† refers to the break-in and electronic bugging in 1972, of the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate apartment, and office building complex in Washington D.C. The term was applied to several related scandals. More than thirty administration officials, campaign officials, and financial contributors pleaded guilty or were found guilty of breaking the law. Nixon faced possible indictment after his resignation, received from his successor, Gerald Ford, a full pardon for all of his offenses he may or had committed (Branford 2). In 1971, Nixon created the Special Investigation Unit, know as the â€Å"plumbers†, their job was to plug all new leaks. Later that year, his agents broke into the office of Dr. Lewis Feilding, and Dr. Daniel Ellsberg, who had given copies of the Pentagon Papers, a secret account of U.S. involvement in Indochina, to newspapers. After Nixon learned of the break-in, he and his top advisors decided to say that the break-in had been carried out for naitonal security reasons(Watergate 3). Later in 1971, H.R. Haldeman, Nixon’s chief of staff, was notified by an assistant, Gordon Stachan, that the U.S. Attorney General John Mitchell and John Dean, counsel to the president, had discussed the need to develop a â€Å"political intelligence capability† at the Committee for Reelection of the President(CRP). Some of the personnel and tactics identified with the activities became associated with efforts aimed at the Democrats. In early 1972, Mitchell assumed a new positio n as director of the CRP and discussed political espionage plans with Dean. Mitchell also provided the proposal to break-in to the Watergate(Branford 3). On June 17, 1972, police arrested five men at the DNC headquarters. The men were adjusting electronic equipment that they had installed in May. One of the men arrested was James McCord, security coordinator for the CRP(Watergate 3). Ehrlichman was ordered to destroy incriminating documents and tapes. Then L. Patrick Gray resigned as acting director of the FBI, later admitting he had destroyed documents given to him by Ehrlichman and Dean. On June 23, 1972, Nix... ...dited version that Nixon would submit to the Grand Jury and to the Senate. One tape contained an 18 minute gap, that gave confusing testimony on how the gap might have occurred. Electronic experts found that someone must have deliberately destroyed evidence. On March 1, 1974 seven former aides to the president; Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Mitchell, Colson, Strachan, Robert Mardian, and Kenneth Parkinson, were indicted for conspiring to hinder the Watergate investigation. Colson pleaded guilty, and Strachan’s charges were dropped. The remaining five went on to trial in October 1974 and January 1, 1975, all but Parkinson were found guilty. In late July the House committee approved three articles of impeachment(Carson 2). Shortly thereafter James St. Clair, the president’s lawyer, learned that one of the 64 tapes that Nixon had been compelled to surrender was the June 23, 1972, conversation with Haldeman in which Nixon sought to thwart the FBI investigation. He insisted that Nixon publish the tape. Nixon did so, and his support in congress virtually disappeared. Facing certain impeachment and removal from office, Nixon resigned, effective at noon August 9, 1974(Watergate 4).

Critical Analysis of a Passage from Homer’s The Odyssey Essay

I. This passage comes very early in the Telemachy and it is wholly descriptive. The first point of interest is the arrival of Athene to Telemachos’ home in Ithaca. Disguised as Mentes’, leader of the Taphians and an old friend of Odysseus. Telemachos is the first to greet Athene as it would appear all the servants are busy working for all of the suitors. The main part of the passage is Telemachos trying to offer traditional guest hospitality customs but also attempting to keep the guest from the overbearing, rowdy suitors â€Å"For himself, he drew a painted bench next her, apart from the others, the suitors, for fear the guest, made uneasy by the uproar, might lose his appetite there among the overbearing people† 1.131-35. II. The first point to note is Telemachos clear effort to observe the hospitality customs to the best of his ability despite the mitigating circumstances of the suitors’ invasion of his home. He appears to be trying to lavish his guest with the best he has and what has been left to him, after the suitors’ abuse of his home and possessions â€Å"the chair splendid and elaborate†, â€Å"For himself, he drew a painted bench† 1.131 and 32. This is obvious here in what he offers his guest and what he takes for himself. Another example of the theme of hospitality we see is evident in these lines â€Å"golden pitcher†, â€Å"silver basin† and â€Å"polished table† 1.136 and 37. Only the finest for his guest. Now what has been clear leading up to this passage and the context of Book 1, is the encroachment of the suitors’. Telemachos does not want to make his guest uncomfortable, but concurrently has another motive for leading Athene/ Mentes’ away from the raucous of the suitors â€Å"and so he might also ask him about his father† 1.135. Even after 2o years of his father’s absence, Telemachos is still holding onto the hope of hearing news of his father, despite the general belief of his people that his father is dead. Nevertheless, given the desperate situation Telemachos and Penelope are in, this hope is understandable. One important feature to be aware of is the author’s heavy use of nouns and epithets â€Å"overbearing people†, â€Å"absent father†, â€Å"grave housekeeper† and â€Å"haughty suitors† 1.34, 35, 39 and 44. He uses words such as overbearing, absent and haughty, to convey the feelings and behaviour of the characters and also the current situation in just a few words. III. Overall, Book 1 sets out the story with some background given. It sets the tone and the mood in the Telemachy as quite sombre and desperate for Odysseus’ family at home awaiting any news of their loved one. It also puts forward an almost desolate need for Odysseus’ return home. The passage itself is a clear example of the theme of hospitality that is a predominant feature of Books 1 – 4. It contrasts Telemachos’ observance of the hospitality customs with the suitors of abuse of these customs.

According to the article, this is enhanced by the interest of having benefits distributed through the marketplace instead of political policies. The use of the example of the U.S healthcare system highlights on how this culture intensifies bias. To negate these practices, group-based affiliations have formed the basis of American politics. However, this too works a t the disadvantage of the lower-class Americans. By highlighting on this bias, the author reflects on the current situation in the American system whereby the highly disadvantaged people are the lower class. While the higher class has their share in policy formulations, these groups have been subjected to significant disadvantages.
